Sifiso Nhlapo, the South African who rose to prominance when he reached the final of the inaugural BMX event at the Bejing Olimpic Games, has been injured in a training accident in Norway. The 21-year old rider underwent emergency surgery last night after fracturing two vertebrae in his neck in the accident.

Mark Squire, Nhlapo's manager, said, " They have not picked up any nerve damage and there are no signs of paralysis at this stage, but the injury did require surgery."
