Can Cope oust the DA?

Speaking at a panel discussion at Wits University last night political analyst and columnist Justice Malala suggested that Cope might replace the DA as South Africa's official opposition after tomorrow's general election. Other panelist did not share his view with Aubrey Matshiqi of the Centre for Policy Studies saying that Cope "will be lucky to approach the 10 percent mark, getting maybe between 7 percent and 9 percent of the vote."

Professor Susan Booysens of Wits University said that, while opinion polls suggest that Cope could become the official opposition in six of South Africa's nine provinces, the Democratic Aliiance will remain the official opposition party.
