Four senior policemen, arrested in March on charges related to drug trafficking, were today denied bail when they appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court. The court maintained that if they received bail they would interfere with crucial witnesses.

Senior Superintendent Dumisane Jwara, Capatin Landro Mokgosani, Captain Victor Jwili and Captain Sakhepi Caiphus Shange have been remanded in custody at a Johannesburg high risk facility until their next court appearance on 3 June 2009.

The four are accused of selling drugs seized by police back to drug sindicates and are facing charges including fraud, theft, racketeering and defeating the ends of justice.
