Poachers have killed at least 126 rhinos in game reserves across the country since the beginning of the year. DA 4, ANC 2 in KZN by-elections

Written by Paul Bedford

The Democratic Alliance won four of the six by-elections held in KwaZulu-Natal yesterday with the other two going the way of the African National Congress. Speaking after the results were announced DA caucus leader in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature Johan Steenhuizen said that the results were an indication that his party was the only alternative to the ANC.

The DA was victorious in three of the four by-elections in Durban and one in Pietermaritzburg. The ANC added Dannhauser in northern KZN to its win in Durban.

Cope, who put up a good showing in Durban North in the general election in April could only garner just over one percent of the vote despite Terror Lekota spending the day prior to the by-election campaigning in the area.
